The Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, Institute of Bioprocess Science and Engineering is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate.
Extent of employment: 20 hours per week
Duration of employment: as of now, limited to 31st of December 2026, with option for temporary extension
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b
Gross monthly salary: depending on previous eligible experience at least Euro 2.507,20, payable 14 times per year
Responsibilities
- Independent research activity and cooperation in research work of the Institute of Bioprocess Science and Engineering at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science.
- Collaboration and independent teaching of courses and examinations within the Department, including Quality Management in Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Exercises.
- Acquisition, supervision and management of scientific research projects.
- Publication activity.
- Student supervision.
- Co-supervision of bachelor's and master's theses as well as dissertations.
- Participation in organizational and administrative tasks as well as evaluation measures.
Required skills and qualifications
- Doctorate degree.
- Completed Master's degree or equivalent in Technical Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemical Technology or a comparable subject with technical focus.
- Extensive knowledge of bioprocess engineering, upstream and downstream processing, with a primary focus on fermentation of microbial systems with recombinant proteins and peptides as products.
- Experience in managing complex interdisciplinary research projects involving multiple research groups, including molecular biology, fermentation, downstream processing, statistics, bioinformatics, product and process analysis.
- Experience in the technical implementation of genetic code expansion technology using non-canonical amino acids.
- Publications relevant to the field.
- Experience in acquiring research projects.
- Excellent written and spoken German and English.
- Relevant practical experience.
- Willingness and ability to teach and publish.
Desired skills and qualifications
- Experience in personnel leadership and management.
- Experience in operating bioreactors on various scales, from small scale to fully automated bench-top bioreactor systems.
- Experience in university cooperation projects.
- Organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
