Our Center for Digital Safety & Security located in Vienna invites applications for an internship. Our Competence Unit for Cooperative Digital Technologies is leading in applied research on the development of data-based IT solutions for various application scenarios, including the design of new and innovative solutions supporting communities in increasing their resilience and achieving their sustainable development goals (SDG). As a reliable partner of industry and public authorities, we work on digital tools for a sustainable and resilient society based on current research results and in collaboration with end users and our customers. The focus of our applications is on climate change impact assessment and the protection of society during crises and disasters.

 

Specifically, our Sustainable & Resilient Societyteam focuses on IT concepts and systems for enabling data exchange in different domains. Specific focus is put on IT solutions for crisis & disaster management, and sustainability management in communities & companies:

Internship "AI-Based Data Harmonization and Decision Support Using LLMS and Multi-Agent Systems"

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team, you will support in identifying relevant data collection and processing workflows, as well as in advancing aggregation methods to make the relationship between desirable goals and necessary measures more transparent and traceable for a development project aimed at developing AI-based approaches for harmonizing data flows and improving data-driven decision support.
  • You will work with modern LLM-based systems, including the use of custom APIs, tools, and multi-agent architectures.
  • At the end of your internship you will implement of a small demo, e.g., a prototype that connects to an LLM via a custom API and demonstrates data-driven decision support using a tool.
  • You will gain practical experience into the development of a flexible, scalable, and secure data management ecosystem that supports evidence-based decision-making, including in crisis situations.
  • You support us in our international project and get exciting insights into our technological environment.
  • You will have not only the opportunity to discuss your work experiences and results with experienced scientific peers, but also to connect with other bachelor’s, master’s or PhD students.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Ongoing bachelor’s programme (early stage) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
  • Solid mathematical foundations (e.g., calculus, linear algebra, statistics)
  • Initial hands-on experience in programming, e.g., with Python (additional languages are a plus)
  • General interest in Artificial Intelligence and data-driven systems
  • Desirable: first exposure to AI frameworks (e.g., crew.ai), multi-agent systems, evaluation methods, or the customization/orchestration of AI models (e.g., through coursework, project work, or self-study)
  • Analytical thinking, willingness to learn, and motivation to engage with new technologies
  • Very Good verbal and written English skills (team language is English), German and other language skills would be a plus

 

What to expect:

  • Duration of the internship: 2 months
  • Start date: summer 2026 – However there is some flexibility concerning the start-date
  • A remuneration of EUR 1.415,-- gross per month for 38.5 hours per week. In addition to our company benefits, we offer flexible working conditions and work experience in a highly innovative environment.
