The Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Resources, Institute of Colloid and Biointerface Science is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate as temporary replacement.
Extent of employment: 40 hours per week
Duration of employment: 15th of March 2026, limited to 14th of September 2026
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b
Gross monthly salary: depending on previous eligible experience at least Euro 5.014,30, payable 14 times per year
Responsibilities
- Independent experimental research in polymer chemistry, colloid science, and biointerfaces, including design, execution, and interpretation of experiments.
- Laboratory work and infrastructure stewardship in organic, polymer, and inorganic chemistry laboratories, including safety compliance, documentation, and method optimization.
- Development, execution, and supervision of projects on surface-initiated polymerization and functional biointerfaces.
- Contribution to the strategic development of the institute's research portfolio.
- Co-supervision and mentoring of Master’s and PhD students in chemistry and related disciplines.
- Initiation and development of own research ideas, with the aim of preparing competitive independent grant applications, for example FWF, EU, or equivalent schemes.
- Active contribution to proposal writing for national and European research grants, including conceptual input and preliminary data generation.
- Scientific dissemination, including preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration within the institute and with national and international partners.
Required skills and qualifications
- Doctoral degree or PhD.
- Very good English language skills.
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
- Proven experience in experimental laboratory research, including independent planning and execution of experiments in an academic research environment.
- Hands-on experience with advanced laboratory chemistry and materials science techniques.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly, with a high level of scientific rigor, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Strong motivation to learn and implement new experimental methods and to develop novel approaches.
- Competence in data handling and analysis, including standard scientific software and digital documentation practices.
- Demonstrated competence in scientific writing, including preparation of manuscripts for peer reviewed journals.
- Resilience and adaptability in a complex research environment, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in parallel.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills; experience working in interdisciplinary research teams is an asset.
- Interest in contributing to proposal development.
- Good knowledge of German.
