Postdoctoral Research Associate / Reference Code 33
The Department of Landscape, Water and Infrastructure, Institute of Soil Physics and Rural Water Management is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate.
Extent of employment: 40 hours per week
Duration of employment: 1st of April 2026, limited to 31st of March 2027, with option for temporary extension
Workplace: 1190 Vienna
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b
Gross monthly salary: depending on previous eligible experience at least € 5.014,30, payable 14 times per year
Responsibilities
- Planning, implementation, and evaluation of research projects in the field of soil physics
- The focus of the research should be in at least one of the following areas: experimental field studies in soil hydrology; experimental laboratory studies in soil hydrology; quantification of water and mass fluxes in the vadose zone; method and sensor development for soil physical analyses
- Teaching in the area of the research focus as well as teaching in other fields of soil physics and rural water management
- Independent development of research ideas, acquisition and supervision of third-party funded projects
- Publication and presentation of research results
- Supervision and mentoring of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students
- Participation in the institute's administrative tasks
- Contribution to university self-administration
- Habilitation should be aimed for
Required skills and qualifications
- Doctorate degree / PhD in soil physics or related field
- Diploma degree in the field of geosciences, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, rural water management or similar disciplines or other equivalent university degree
- Very good written and spoken English; knowledge of German is an advantage
- In-depth knowledge in your own research focus area
- Research focus should complement existing expertise at the institute and provide possibility for joint projects
- Strong publication record
- High motivation for working independently and for working in an interdisciplinary research and teaching environment
- Willingness to travel for research and teaching activities

- Understanding of and experience with soil physics topics outside own research area
- Experience with data analysis tools
- Driver's license B
