The Department of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Vegetables and Ornamentals is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate as temporary replacement.
Extent of employment: 20 hours per week
Duration of employment: as of now, limited to 30th of September 2028
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1
Gross monthly salary: depending on previous eligible experience at least Euro 1.888,10, payable 14 times per year
Responsibilities
- Research and publication in the field of horticulture with a focus on stress physiology and control options for the target quality, quality on demand, of herbs, spices, aquatic plants and medicinal plants in various cultivation systems.
- Planning and conducting experiments in greenhouse and in the field, including data collection and statistical evaluation.
- Analyses of growth media and plants.
- Activities in the field of quality-enhancing measures and plant physiology.
- Collaboration in interdisciplinary areas of expertise.
- Contribution to the development of the Institute of Vegetables and Ornamentals and the Department of Agricultural Sciences.
- Presentation of the results at national and international conferences and events.
- Writing scientific publications and publishing the results in scientific journals, as well as active participation in national and international conferences with the aim of obtaining a doctoral degree.
- Support in teaching and practice, development of teaching materials and funding applications.
Required skills and qualifications
- Diploma degree in Horticulture, agricultural sciences, biology, biochemistry or other equivalent university degree.
- Very good written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in laboratory analysis, such as wet chemistry, non-destructive analysis or sensory analysis.
- Basic knowledge of data analysis.
- Willingness and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, especially when dealing with problems with a physiological background.
- Didactic skills.
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Organisational skills.
- Knowledge of German at least level B2 highly desirable.
- Practical experience in horticulture.
- Experience abroad, especially in the field of horticulture.
- Experience in publishing or presenting scientific results to national and international audiences.
- Supervision experience in the subject-relevant area.
- Driver's licence class B.
