The Department of Economics and Social Sciences, Institute of Sustainable Economic Development is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate.
Extent of employment: 20 hours per week
Duration of employment: 1st of December 2025, limited to 30th of September 2031
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b
Gross monthly salary: depending on previous eligible experience at least Euro 2.466,50, payable 14 times per year
Responsibilities
- Independent research in the field of integrated modeling of climate-neutral energy systems, with a focus on developing energy system models and integrating them into interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research projects
- Independent teaching in German and/or English within the department
- Co-supervision of master’s and doctoral theses
- Collaboration within the interdisciplinary fields of expertise at BOKU, as well as participation in national and international cooperation programs
- Representation of the field at national and international levels
- Active participation in the self-governance of the BOKU University
Required skills and qualifications
- Doctorate degree or PhD in system modeling, energy economics and neighbouring fields
- Diploma degree in Environmental and Bio-Resource Management, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics or other equivalent university degree
- Language skills: English C1 and German C1
- Excellent practical experience in programming in Python, R or in the development of optimization models
- Proof of relevant publications in international journals
- Experience in project work as lead or team member
Desired skills and qualifications
- Experience in integrating empirical research findings from other disciplines into modeling
- Experience in incorporating modeling approaches into transdisciplinary research
- Experience with energy system models such as PyPSA-EUR
- Portuguese language skills B1 advantageous
