The Department of Ecosystem Management, Climate and Biodiversity, Institute of Forest Ecology is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Extent of employment: 40 hours per week

Duration of employment: 1st of December 2025, limited to 4 years

Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b

Gross monthly salary: depending on previous eligible experience at least Euro 4.932,90, payable 14 times per year

This position is a collaboration with the Complexity Science Hub Vienna.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on theoretical underpinnings of forest dynamics and reproduction.
  • Acquire and supervise third-party funded projects.
  • Publish in scientific journals and present research in national and international conferences.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Organize and participate in third mission activities such as outreach and science communication.
  • Participate in university self-governance and institutional development.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Doctorate degree or PhD in Theoretical Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Theoretical Ecology.
  • Diploma degree in Biology, Mathematics or Physics or other equivalent university degree.
  • English language skills.
  • Experience and proven ability to conduct research in dynamic models of forest demographics and reproduction.
  • Publication record in internationally leading journals according to research experience.
  • Advanced data wrangling and analysis skills for large data sets in R, Python, or similar platform.
  • International network of research partnerships.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • University teaching experience.
  • Mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience in acquiring third-party funding.
