The Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Resources, Institute of Analytical Chemistry is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate in project employment.

Extent of employment: 30 hours per week

Duration of employment: 1st of February 2026, limited to 30th of June 2029

Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1

Gross monthly salary: depending on previous eligible experience at least Euro 2.786,10, payable 14 times per year

Responsibilities

  • The Institute of Analytical Chemistry at BOKU University is looking for a motivated and curious candidate, who is passionate about performing cutting-edge research in the field of instrumental analysis of water-soluble polymers.
  • Water-soluble polymers are essential for numerous applications in daily life and are mainly released into wastewater systems. The Christian Doppler Laboratory for biodegradation of water-soluble polymers addresses the critical need for sustainable end-of-life solutions for WSPs and aims at closing gaps in knowledge on mechanisms of biodegradation in wastewater and freshwater systems. To understand processes in the environment, it is key to developing and applying analytical methods that are fit-for-purpose.
  • The PhD project aims at establishing a liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry based analytical platform for polyamino acids and their biodegradation intermediates.
  • The opportunity to obtain a doctorate is provided and supported.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Diploma degree in Chemistry or other equivalent university degree.
  • Very good English skills.

Desirable skills and qualification

  • The candidate is creative, curious and a good team player.
  • The candidate holds a Master’s degree in the field of chemistry or completed a master thesis in the field of analytical chemistry.
  • The candidate has advanced English speaking and writing skills.
