The Department of Landscape, Water and Infrastructure, Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and River Research is currently seeking Postgraduate Research Associate in project employment.
Extent of employment: 40 hours per week
Duration of employment: 1st of February 2026, limited to 31st of December 2027, with the option of temporary extension
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1
Gross monthly salary: depending on previous eligible experience at least Euro 3.776,10, payable 14 times per year
Responsibilities
- Participation in two EU-funded projects on the Danube.
- Assessment of issues related to sediments and river morphology, flood protection, hydropower, navigation and ecology.
- Application of hydromorphological assessment systems.
- Assignment of measures, especially nature-based solutions, to specific river sections of the Danube and its tributaries.
- Collaboration with project partners and stakeholders.
- Planning and preparation of restoration measures for presentation within a web-GIS.
- Preparation and follow-up of documents for meetings, preparation of presentation materials and organization of meetings.
- Contribution to the development and submission of research projects.
- Participation in national and international conferences and project meetings.
- Possibility to write scientific publications, including SCI journals.
Required skills and qualifications
- Diploma degree in Civil Engineering and Water Management or other equivalent university degree.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of GIS software, for example ArcGIS.
- Very good computer skills in Office applications, distinct organisational skills, excellent communication skills and flexibility.
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Experience with measure planning and planning tasks on rivers, for example in an engineering office.
- Understanding of technical, ecological and socioeconomic contexts and interest in interdisciplinary research.
- Skills in layout and graphics.
- Independence and strong teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel.
- Experience with coordinating and organizing scientific projects is an advantage.
