Eine Bank, die ihren Kunden Bitcoin oder tokenisierte Wertpapiere anbieten möchte, kommt mit ihrer klassischen Kontosoftware nicht weit. Sie braucht ein System, das digitale Vermögenswerte handeln, verwahren und verbuchen kann und dabei denselben Prüf- und Aufsichtsregeln standhält wie der übrige Bankbetrieb. Genau diese Software baut Trever in Graz. An die Plattform sind rund dreißig Handelsplätze, Verwahrstellen und Datenanbieter angebunden.
Gegründet haben Trever 2019 zwei Grazer: Hans-Jürgen Griesbacher und Benjamin Rath. Griesbacher führt das Unternehmen als CEO, Rath als CTO, an ihrer Seite stehen inzwischen ein COO und ein CCO. Ihre Plattform bündelt Handel, Verwahrung, Abwicklung und Buchhaltung für digitale Vermögenswerte in einem System und lässt sich über Schnittstellen an bestehende Bankensoftware andocken. Entwickelt wird alles im eigenen Haus, ohne ausgelagerte Programmierung.
Das merkt man an der Kundschaft. Die Raiffeisen Bank International setzt auf das System, ebenso die slowakische Tatra banka und Frankfurter Häuser wie das Bankhaus Scheich oder die Futurum Bank. Trever baut also nicht für die Schublade, sondern für den laufenden Betrieb regulierter Banken. 2024 kamen 2,4 Millionen Euro Startkapital hinzu, angeführt von TX Ventures, Market One Capital und Blockchain Founders Capital. Wie groß das Team in Graz heute ist, gibt das Unternehmen öffentlich nicht bekannt.
