As Austria's largest research and technology organisation for applied research, we are dedicated to make substantial contributions to solving the major challenges of our time, climate change and digitalisation. With our open culture of innovation and our motivated, international teams, we are working to position AIT as Austria's leading research institution at the highest international level and to make a positive contribution to the economy and society.

Our Center for Digital Safety and Security is looking for new Ingenious Partner for our location in Vienna. In the Reliable Wireless Communication and Sensing research team, we develop energy efficient solutions for reliable wireless 5G/6G communication and sensing. We are enthusiastically researching quantum sensing for measurements of different physical modalities such as radio frequency signals, magnetic fields or the spatial position of objects using an advanced software defined radio (SDR) testbed.

Junior Scientist (f/m/d) for Quantum Sensing (Incl. the possibility for a PhD-Thesis at TU Wien)

CENTR FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • You will develop numerical signal processing algorithms for SDR based quantum sensing system using nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds or Rydberg cells.
  • You will validate the algorithms by using numerical simulation and an SDR testbed.
  • You will engage in establishing a unique 6G distributed MIMO sensing testbed and antenna arrays based on software defined radio technology using open-source tools such as GNU Radio and RFNoC for real-time FPGA algorithm design.
  • You will publish your research results in international journals and present them at conferences.
  • You will learn how to evaluate the results and prepare them for further studies.
  • You will accumulate experience in a research field, that has an enormous range of applications from construction, logistics, aviation and rail to agriculture, robotics and defense.
  • You will gain experience in a group of international scientists and build up your professional network within European wide research projects.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Completed technical studies (at least MSc.) related to Telecommunications, Physics or Computational Science and Engineering
  • Excellent knowledge in the field of signal processing, propagation modeling, AI/ML and numerical simulation software development (MATLAB or Python)
  • Sound knowledge of electromagnetic field simulation tools and antenna design
  • Hands-on-experience to build hardware quantum testbeds and design printed circuit boards (PCB) for electronic measurement systems
  • Interest in reading and writing scientific publications and enjoyment of solving application-oriented questions from industry
  • High level of commitment and ability to work in a team
  • Good language skills in English and German (spoken & written)

What to expect:

The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 56.784,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience. In addition, we offer company benefits, flexible working conditions, individual training and career opportunities.

We encourage our Junior Scientist (m/f/d) to pursue a doctoral degree at TU Wien.

As part of our AIT-PhD programme, which is carried out with renowned universities, you will have the opportunity to conduct your PhD thesis in collaboration with our experts and our national and international project partners from industry or other research organisations.

At AIT, we create an inclusive and family-friendly working environment that promotes equal opportunities and actively strengthens diversity across our workforce and in leadership positions. Among other initiatives, we are committed to increasing the proportion of women in our company and therefore particularly welcome applications from female applicants.
