The University of Vienna is seeking a pre-doctoral scientist in the field of geoecology to strengthen research and teaching on the ecological functioning of wetlands. This includes contributing to the group's research profile and to research on soil formation in wetland habitats.

Your future tasks

You will actively participate in research, teaching, and administration.

  • Research with a primary focus on soil formation in wetlands, for example the reed beds of Lake Neusiedl.
  • Writing a dissertation on soil formation in wetlands.
  • Publishing articles in high-impact international journals and presenting at international conferences.
  • Independent teaching in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Participation in the activities of the research group and the department.
  • Contributing to the preparation of research projects and the acquisition of external funding.
  • Participating in scientific studies, publication projects, and presentations.
  • Active membership in the Vienna International School of Earth and Space Sciences doctoral school.

Your profile

The University of Vienna is seeking a candidate with an MSc or diploma in a natural science discipline and expertise in a relevant research area such as physical geography, geoecology, or soil science.

  • Proven knowledge of soil science, fire ecology, and reed ecology.
  • Proven knowledge of data analysis and programming, especially R applications or comparable programming languages.
  • Proven ability to publish articles in scientific journals.
  • Determination and commitment to scientific excellence.
  • Willingness and ability to drive to field sites and, when necessary, to work long hours on-site even under adverse conditions.
  • Fluency in English and German.
